Use the proxy setting that's already built into your iPhone or iPad. No app needed. Takes about 3 minutes per Wi-Fi network.
- About 3 minutes
- No app needed
- Wi-Fi only
Before you start: grab your details
Log in to your IDNI account, open My Services, and click your Private Address. You'll see your address (IP), port numbers, username and password. Keep that page open.
Want this guide to show your own details instead of the yellow boxes? Type them here. We never ask for your password here.
Read this first
- It's per Wi-Fi network. iPhone remembers this setting for that one Wi-Fi. When you move to a new hotel or café, repeat these steps for the new network.
- It doesn't cover mobile data. On cellular (4G/5G), the setting isn't used. If you need your private address on mobile data too, use an app instead: see Every app → iPhone.
- Most apps follow it, some don't. Safari and most apps use it. A few apps ignore it. If one app still shows your real location, the app option above covers everything.
Set it up on Wi-Fi
Connect to Wi-Fi
Join the Wi-Fi you're using (hotel, apartment, café) like you normally would.
Open that network's settings
Open Settings → Wi-Fi. Tap the blue ⓘ next to the network you're connected to.
Find the proxy setting
Scroll all the way down to HTTP Proxy. Tap Configure Proxy and choose Manual.
Enter your address
Server YOUR-IP Port YOUR-PORT (the HTTP port) Authentication Turn on Username YOUR-USERNAME Password YOUR-PASSWORD Save
Tap Save in the top-right corner. Then open Safari and do the 30-second check.
To turn it off: go back to the same screen and set Configure Proxy to Off. iPad works exactly the same way.
Use the same address every day. That steadiness is the whole point. Banks and online accounts are calmer when they see the same private address day after day. Switching it on and off a lot, or mixing it with a VPN, looks less like the usual you.
