Android

Use a free app that sends every app through your private address, or Android's built-in Wi-Fi setting for Chrome. About 4 minutes.

  • HTTP or SOCKS5

Before you start: grab your details

Log in to your IDNI account, open My Services, and click your Private Address. You'll see your address (IP), port numbers, username and password. Keep that page open.

Want this guide to show your own details instead of the yellow boxes? Type them here. We never ask for your password here.

This only changes what you see on this screen. Nothing is sent to us or anyone else, and it's forgotten when you close the tab.

Two ways to do it

Option 1, the app, is the one we recommend. Android's built-in Wi-Fi proxy setting has no place for a username and password. Chrome will ask for them, but most other apps can't, so they fail or skip the proxy. The app covers every app, on Wi-Fi and mobile data.

Menu names differ a little between phone brands and Android versions. The steps below follow Google's own Android help. If a name doesn't match, search Settings for proxy.

Option 1 (recommended): the free Super Proxy app

  1. Install Super Proxy

Open the Play Store and install Super Proxy. It's free, with an optional paid upgrade you don't need.

  2. Add your address

Open the app and tap Add proxy. Fill it in:

    NameIDNI Home
    ProtocolHTTP (or SOCKS5 with YOUR-SOCKS-PORT)
ServerYOUR-IP (just the numbers, no http://)
    PortYOUR-PORT
    AuthenticationUsername/Password
    Username / PasswordYOUR-USERNAME / YOUR-PASSWORD

Leave DNS resolution on Proxy. Tap the save icon.

  3. Start it

Tap Start. Android will ask to allow a VPN connection. Tap OK. (Super Proxy uses Android's VPN switch to send apps through your proxy. Your traffic goes to your private address, not to a VPN company.)

  4. Check it

Open Chrome and do the 30-second check. Tap Stop in Super Proxy whenever you want to turn it off.

Option 2: Android's built-in Wi-Fi setting (Chrome only)

  1. Open your Wi-Fi network

Open Settings → Network & internet → Internet. Tap the Wi-Fi you're connected to (or its gear icon).

  2. Edit, then Advanced options

Tap the pencil (Edit) icon, then Advanced options. On Samsung phones this is called View more.

  3. Choose Manual proxy

Under Proxy, choose Manual. Enter YOUR-IP as the Proxy hostname and YOUR-PORT as the Proxy port. Tap Save.

  4. Log in when Chrome asks

Open Chrome. It will pop up a sign-in box for the proxy. Enter YOUR-USERNAME and YOUR-PASSWORD.

This setting is per Wi-Fi network, doesn't cover mobile data, and most apps other than Chrome won't log in to it. If your work apps don't connect, use Option 1.

Tips

Use the same address every day. That steadiness is the whole point. Banks and online accounts are calmer when they see the same private address day after day. Switching it on and off a lot, or mixing it with a VPN, looks less like the usual you.

Last step: check it works

It takes 30 seconds and tells you for sure.
